Lending Aid to Unorganised Sector Workers through Prochesta App

With successful associations between Brandsum and the state government, and with the immense success of the newly launched ‘Sneher Paras App, the ministry handed Brandsum another task to create an App for workers in the unorganised sector, having no source of income during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The brief:

The Government of West Bengal this time intended to create an App to extend monetary help under the WB Prochesta Prokolpo Scheme.

The ministry wanted the team at Brandsum to create the Prochesta App, which will provide monetary relief to eligible workers earning daily wages, having no income after the nationwide lockdown.

Challenge

An app backend system was to be built by Brandsum that can locate, identify and extend relief, within a very short notice and can handle the huge numbers of downloads and form submission data received post launch.

Strategy

The team worked religiously, brainstorming a seamless UI and Navigation that will help capture the data of unorganised sector workers and also to filter out non-eligible applications, apart from helping the workers register, apply and access government relief funds easily.

Execution

Brandsum worked on their initial priorities to get the application to work flawlessly. A lot of effort was made into making the platform robust and user-friendly. It featured the use of PHP for making the app dynamic. PgSql, Lumen was used for smooth data capture and Java for running the application in different environments.A foolproof application form was also created by the agency that would help validate the unorganised sector workers eligible for monetary help. Brandsum allocated a dedicated team of backend developers, frontend developers, project managers to handle Prochesta’s operations. Our developers continued to work on the existing tech stack of the platform – including PHP, Lumen, jQuery, PgSQL and Java to support the huge amount of data received from the registrations.

Results

Even though the team worked remotely, team Brandsum managed to launch the app on 4th May, 2020 within 7 days of receiving the brief. The launch of the Prochesta App ensured that workers in the unorganised received the much needed relief during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The app was an instant success with the unorganised sector workers and received 503917 downloads within 2 days and has been used by 2060533 workers to access monetary relief from the state.
